Dr. Fugh,

Thank you for your enthusiasm, thank you for your dedication and thank you for your committment to AME! My faith has been renewed through studying and reading your research and publications.

Supporting your campaign for Bishop has encouraged me to 'press on' and do my part to maintain the AME integrity in our rural community with respect to the history and strength of AME Church as we move into the future.

Again, I thank you for all of your contributions over the years. I have fond memories as a YPD member of watching you work and hearing you speak at various functions; you made a huge impression many years ago for many of us!

Blessings,

Recovery!

As I matriculate through Payne Theological Seminary I think about how there is a hidden treasure in the archives of the many teachings that don't always reach the local pew members. In my ministry I want to take the rich history that I have learned from seminary and share it with the local congregation where God leads me to and raise up a new found love for AME in those both young and old such that recovery is inevitable!

What happened to us telling "our story"? What happened to us talking about "our stones"? The stones are still there but we stopped telling our story to let others tell our story. But guess what? NO ONE can tell our story like WE CAN TELL OUR STORY. We must remember and recover our story and our legacy and tell this new generation "what these stones mean". Let's stop regurgitating dead stories and recover the magnificent, living history of "how we got over". We, as well as the world, need to know of our history that is yet still unfolding for Black Americans. Most Black Americans don't even know what A. M. E. means. When we start remembering and telling our story, I believe that the same God who brought us thus far, is the same God who will give us the power to "RECOVER ALL".

I believe you are on the right track. We need to get back to basics. We need to get back to what made us AME's. It seesm that nondenominational "churches" have taken our ways. We seem to have forgotten where we came from and how and why we were succesful in accomplishing the Kingdom building. Some change things and don't even know why they change it, other than they say it on TV or witnessed it in person. We have a rich tradition and it should not be done away with because some other group is doing this or that. Recovery goes along with Restoration. We must restore our traditions to their rightful place.

The faith 'Recovery' that is needed is full-fledged: Recovery of obedience to God, recovery of accountability and responsibility, recovery of character, integrity, fairness and truth. One of the most haunting and hurting statements made by non-believers is that they see no reason to develop a spiritual relationship with God because they see the chaos and dysfunction inside of His churches! Our lamps are in disrepair: some are tarnished, some are dimmed, and some provide no light whatsoever.

A Recovery of the Spirit and a Return to the Word of God will do a lot to aid a global recovery of economic, humanitarian and political significance. Let us abide by His Word, honor the laws of the Church of Allen and the laws of our states and our nation (USA), and do the work that is necessary to put our Zion on solid ground. It is time to put our house in order, from the top down and from the bottom up.

Recovery is a wonderful goal, however positive action is urgently needed to stem the tide of destruction in many of our communities. The essence of this interview begs review: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/religionandethics/episodes/august-21-2009/passing-the-mantle/3966/ I look forward to your leadership impacting positive action in the AMEC.

Dr. Fugh,

Your mission statement is awesome!

Many of us have already become hopeless romantics, but RECOVERY is on the way….

As a hopeless romantic, I remember the days when churches were filled to the rafters with people, love, and the Holy Spirit.

As a hopeless romantic, I remember when many pastors preached an uncompromising gospel without fear of repercussion for preaching the truth!

As a hopeless romantic, I remember when my mother, the late Rev. Savannah B. Harris preached, “It is Holiness or Hell,” without batting an eye!!!

I appreciate your approach to campaigning. It is not all about you, it is about us!
Our prayers are with you, your beautiful wife, Alexia and your entire family.

Grace, love, and peace...
Sister Shelby
